In The Community

At Patton Law Practice, our close connection with our community allows our attorneys and staff to contribute more than just our legal expertise. The members of our firm are involved in many charitable causes and community improvement projects. We have worked on several projects in our community that have helped us confirm our strong relationship with our neighbors, within and outside the legal community.

For example, when our neighbors became concerned with the city of Scottsdale's inattention to neighborhood traffic congestion and speed, we helped bring citizens' rights to preserve and protect their neighborhood to the forefront and were successful in having the speed limit reduced from 35 mph to 25 mph. We also helped lobby for the installation of speed circles and landscape buffers to reduce traffic congestion in our neighborhood.

When the town of Paradise Valley prosecuted a political action committee, we made a freedom of expression argument that succeeded in getting the resulting fine reduced from over $2,000 down to $20. We are also instrumental in making sure that campaign/election legislation was redrafted to take into account the freedom of expression.

We interceded pro bono on behalf of nursing staff who were subjected to verbally abusive physicians, supporting employees' rights to work in a non-hostile environment. The hospital reprimanded the offending physicians and notified nurses regarding corrective actions that they had taken.

When members of our community were outraged by physicians' use of mobile phones and pagers during surgery, we continued to fight for patients' rights and brought this issue to the local hospital's attention. After involving the local newspaper, the hospital developed a strict policy regarding the use of mobile phones by medical staff.

At PLP, we care about our community as well as our clients, and we are proud to help when we can, to make our community a better place.
